Top updates of the week
And more…
Today, we’re talking LinkedIn…
Love it or hate it (it is cringey sometimes, yes!), it is the easiest platform to grow your social presence, personal brand, or network professionally.
Why do I say it’s the easiest?
Out of +1 billion users on LinkedIn, only 11 million create content.
If you start today, you will be in the top 1%
Today, we'll cover everything you need to know BEFORE posting on LinkedIn.
A few things that I believe:
Your LinkedIn profile ≠ your CV
Your LinkedIn profile = your business site.
Your LinkedIn profile is like your personal landing page, so treat it accordingly.
Let’s dive in!
Part 1: Content Strategy 101
Before posting content, you must define the GOAL of your LinkedIn profile. To do this, ask yourself this simple question:
“WHY am I posting on LinkedIn?”
Are you trying to:
Generate more leads for your business?
Position yourself as a thought leader within your niche?
Land speaking engagements?
Attract business partnerships?
Grow your email newsletter?
Network with your favorite business leaders?
It may be for ALL of the reasons above, but try to prioritize one.
With your goal in mind, WHO specifically are you trying to attract with your content?
For example, if you’re trying to generate more leads for your business, your ideal target audience for your content would be someone who’s a good fit to buy your product/service.
But don’t stop there!
The key to having a powerful LinkedIn presence is to write down your ideal target audience:
Problems
Fears
Desires and aspirations
Frustrations

Part 2: Profile Must-Do’s
Step 1: Write your bio
When someone lands on your LinkedIn profile, they should be able to understand who you are and what you do from your bio within 6 seconds.
Here are some great templates you can use to write your bio:
[What you do] + [Who you help] + [What outcomes you generate]
[Title] | I provide [Benefit] for [Audience] | [Expertise and Services] | [Personal attribute] | [CTA]
[Role] @ [Company] | [Recognition] | I provide [Service] | [Title] | [Demographic] | [Accolade]
[Primary Focus] • Providing [Type of advice] for [Key areas]
Examples:

Step 2: Create the Branding Elements
Your profile photo is the first thing people see when they click on your profile. It should be clear, bold, approachable, and representative of you!
Your banner is great for adding information or a call to action.
It should be on-brand with the rest of your profile.
Examples:

Notice how Lara’s banner below does not repeat the words in her bio.
She uses the banner to explain the benefits of her profile.
Step 3: Create a Featured Section
Your featured section is like a store display.
Make it EASY for profile visitors to choose what action to take.
Here, you can have the option to add:
Your website or landing page
Your Calendly link (if you have it)
Free or paid digital products
Email Newsletter opt-in page (like I do)
A lead magnet/free resource.
To add a featured section on LinkedIn:
Click on your profile photo/icon at the top of the homepage and go to your profile.
Scroll down to the Featured section between. If you've never added anything to this section, click the "+" sign in the upper right corner.
Add links of your choice

Examples of a great Featured section:

Step 4: Write an About Section
Time to add an About section.
Here, you want to answer the obvious question, “Who are you?”
Expand on your professional story. Highlight your achievements, skills, and how you can help potential clients or connections.
Use this space to build trust and establish your expertise.
Below is a cool ChatGPT prompt to help you write an About section (Credits to ManageFeed)
